Ginataan is a sweet stew of root crops, fruit and other goodies cooked in coconut milk. This easy ginataan recipe makes 8 servings.

INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING GINATAAN
1 cup glutinous-rice flour (mochiko can be used)
1/3 cup water
3 cups gata (coconut milk)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup shredded jackfruit, preferably sweet preserves
1 medium kamote (yam or sweet potato), cubed, into one-inch pieces
2 small gabi (taro root), cubed into half-inch pieces
4 ripe saba (cooking bananas), peeled and sliced diagonally

PROCEDURE FOR MAKING GINATAAN
1. Combine the rice flour with 1/3 cup water. Add little amounts of water until you get a soft dough.
2. Form the dough into small balls of about half an inch in diameter. Rolling the pieces between the palms of your hands. Set aside.
3. In a deep pan, bring to a boil the coconut milk and sugar. Reduce heat to medium.
4. Add the flour balls (made in step 2), jackfruit, yam, taro root and bananas.
5. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until all the fruit and root crops are cooked. Stir frequently.
6. Ladle out servings into individual bowls. Serve warm.

*mochiko - Japanese flour made from glutinous or sticky rice

Corn with Coconut Milk (Ginataang Mais)

INGREDIENTS:
3 ears young corn or 1-1/2 cups creamed corn
1 cup coconut milk
6 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup sweet rice (sold in Oriental stores)

Remove corn kernels from cob if using fresh corn. In a pan, combine coconut milk, water, sugar and sweet rice. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed and rice is soft. Add corn and cook for another 10 to 15 minutes or until corn is mushy. Serve hot or cold.

Freak Accident!!!

Last Wednesday, I was involved in a freak accident while on the way to our office!
I suffered a lacerated wound at the frontal area of my head when inadvertently I bumped against that metal alarm box.
The hospital bill was more than Php4,000! Good thing we had this health insurance card. I only paid P35 for the ice bag. At di ko maintindihan bakit mi hiwalay pang bayad sa ganun ^_^

Sa emergency room kung saan tinahi ang ulo ko. 4 stitches lang naman.

Thursday. While waiting for the insurance doctor na magsi-certify para mabayaran ang 1-week leave ko ng SSS.

Hay buhay. You'll never know talaga kung kelan darating ang aksidente. Kahit gaano ka pa kaingat, kung talagang oras mo na. Mangyayari pa rin. Time is precious. Enjoy life to the fullest!

Last Sunday was the last day of the PartyCasino.Net World Cup of Pool 2009. Hindi na ako nakapunta sa SM North City Annex dahil sa sama ng panahon, pero during the 1st day of the said event, that was on September 1, Tuesday, I had the opportunity na makita ang karamihan sa mga sikat na pool players around the world. Nakuntento na lang ako sa panood sa TV.
Gaya ng inaasam ng sambayanan, pumasok sa semis ang Team A at B ng Pilipinas. Sina Dennis Orcollo at Ronny Alcano para sa Team A. Sina Efren Reyes at Django Bustamante para sa Team B. Sa unang laro ng semi-final match, nakatapat ng Team B ang Team China. Ang Team China din ang nagpatumba sa defending champion na Team USA. Malambot ang mga kamay at magagaling ang mga tsinoy. Halos benta ang bawat breaks nila. Pero sa hinaba-haba man daw ng prusisyon, natapos din ang laro at nanalo pa rin ang Team Philippines B sa score na 9-8.
Sa ikalawang round ng semis, nakatapat naman ng Team A Philippines ang Team Germany kung saan andun sina Ralf Souquet at Thorsten Hohmann. Kasama si Ralf Souquet sa ilan sa mga paborito kong foreign pool players. Sobrang galing ng mamang ito at kita naman sa dami ng accomplishments niya pagdating sa bilyar. 50/50 ako pabor sa Team Philippines at Team Germany. Marami ang naghahangad na sana maging all-Filipino showdown na lang ang Finals ng World Cup pero sa kasamaang-palad, tinalo ng Team Germany ang grupo nila Orcollo at Alcano sa isang kakapanginig na 9 racks to win format sa score na 9-6. Sadyang minalas ang mga Pilipino sa dry breaks o dili kaya illegal breaks. Kakainis nga ang rule ng larong ito. Kasi sa pagsargo ng bola, dapat daw at least 3 bola ang makatawid dun sa marker. O pwede din na isa lang ang makatawid basta 2 bola o mahigit pa ang pumasok sa butas. Pwede din na 2 bola ang makatawid basta mi 1 isang bola na papasok sa butas. Kaya ayun. Ang pinalad na maghaharap sa Finals ay ang Team Philippines B versus Team Germany.
6PM na ata yun ng mag-resume ang laro, ang final game kung saan $60,000 ang paghahatian ng 2 miyembro ng mananalong koponan. Agad na umarangkada ang Team Philippines sa 3-0 na kalamangan pero yung lumipas na halos 2 oras, naging pangit at nakakainis na ang mga tira nila Efren at Django. Nung dumating ang score sa 8-6 pabor sa mga Germans, di na ako nanood at pumasok na lang ako sa kwarto para matulog. Pero after ng ilang minuto bumalik uli ako sa sala para manood at nagulat ako ng makitang 9-9 tabla ang laro. Yung sumunod na natitirang 2 racks ay sobrang nakaka-tense na ang bawat yugto. Parang ang tagal ng oras. Sa tuwing tumitira ang Germans ay sobrang tahimik ng crowd sa gilid ng pool area. Iniisip ko nga, sobrang swerte naman ng Team Germany dahil pag nagkataon 2 teams ng Pilipinas ang tinalo nito sa crucial na tagpo pa naman. Pero dininig ata ang dasal ng bawat Pinoy. Natapos ang laro sa score na 11-9 pabor sa mga Pinoy. Napasigaw si Django sa huling tumbok ni Efren para sa panalo. Halatang nairita ng kunti ang Team Germany sa ingay ng mga Pinoy simula't sapol pa ng labanan. Pero alam naman ni Ralf Souquet na ganun talaga kainit ang mga Pinoy kaya nga ilang beses na rin siyang pabalik-balik dito sa Pinas at nag-eenjoy siya sa mainit na hospitality ng mga tao. Pero isa lang ang napansin ko sa halos lahat ng foreign pool players, approachable sila para sa photo ops at autographs. Kahit nga talo na, nakangiti pa rin sila. At grabeh... ang gagaling nilang lahat!

There were 31 countries scheduled battling for the coveted crown. These countries include the United States of America (the defending champion), Germany, England, Malta, Sweden, Finland, China, France, Canada, Korea, Australia, Spain, Indonesia, India, Qatar, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Belgium, Poland, Denmark, Russia, Vietnam, Holland, and the Philippines. The Philippines as a host will have two teams. Philippines A is composed of Dennis Orcollo and Ronnie Alcano. Philippines B is composed of Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante.

Parang mga Pilipino lang din ang hitsura nitong team from Indonesia. Yung isa nga para lang tambay sa kanto o kargardor ang porma. Pero malupit din kasi sa laro, tinalo nila ang team ng India.

Last Friday, we had a fire drill activity. All personnel from their respective companies were mandated to vacate the building. It was a laborious experience from our part because we were located at the uppermost floor level. The elevators were functioning during that time but our only option was to simply stroll with our bare feet. It was a tedious merry-go-round trip, passing every floor of the edifice down to the basement.

Kagabi pag-uwi ko ay agad akong dumaan sa bilihan ng mga DVDs para makakuha ng kopya nung pelikulang PUSH. Heto kasi yung napanood ko sa bus nung pauwi na kami after we had our tree planting at the La Mesa Watershed last Monday. Di ko natapos yung panonood nun kaya ipinagtanong ko na lang sa kaopisina ko kung ano yung pamagat at PUSH nga daw.

Alas-diyes ng gabi kagabi nung pinanood ko na sa bahay yung pelikula. Si Chris Evans yung bida. Mas nakilala siya as Humantorch dun sa pelikulang Fantastic Four ng Marvel. Maganda yung whole story niya pero I wonder bakit parang di siya masyado napansin nung pinalabas sa mga sinehan nung February 6, 2009. O baka masyado lang akong busy kaya di ko napansin tung pelikulang to. At ang ganda nung partner niya na si Camilla Belle... cute ng eyes at face hehehe ^_^

Kagabi habang naglalakad pauwi matapos akong magbabad sa internet ng apat na oras, biglang bumuhos ang ulan. Ewan ko ba kung bakit nung gabi lang na yun, nagkataon pang di ako nakadala ng payong. Dati-rati naman kapag nakikita ko ng makulimlim ang ulap habang papunta pa lang ako sa paborito kong internet shop dito sa labas ng subdivision namin, mi baon na akong payong na souvenir nung ako'y nasa Mount Olympus pa.

Biglang lumakas ang ulan. Kaya napilitan akong tumambay sa isang tindahan ilang kanto na lang malapit sa bahay. Sabi ko, titila lang din agad to. Saglit kong inabala ang aking mga katextmates , pampalipas-oras ba. Pero isang oras na ang lumipas at di pa rin tumigil ang abalang ulan. Naiinip na ako. Di pa ako kumakain eh pasado alas-diyes na ng gabi.

Sa dami ng nagdaang tricycle, buti na lang mi napara akong isa. No choice at gustuhin ko mang maglakad eh baka magsara na yung tindahan. Maiwang nakatambay ako sa harap. Baka akalain pang member ako ng akyat-bahay gang. Sabi ko, P10 lang naman ang pamasahe kasi malapit na lang sa bahay at nasa loob na rin mismo ako ng subdivision namin. Inabot ko yung P20 ki manong driver. Nakiramdam ako at mukhang walang balak magbigay ng sukli. Nahiya ata si manong kaya nag-abot din ng barya. I was expecting na P10, pero P5 lang ang binigay. Oportunista din si manong sa bwisit na ulan. Di na ako kumibo. Sa hirap ng buhay ngayon, yung ibang driver ganun talaga ugali. Kung pwedeng makadugas, gagawin kahit di tama.

Gutom na ako. Buti naman at masarap ang ulam, kaldereta. Agad na akong pumuwesto sa harap ng TV habang kumakain. Tayong Dalawa yung palabas. "Loyal-Kapamilya" kasi kapatid ko. Anak ng -- Hindi pa man nag-iinit ang puwet ko sa pagkakaupo ay biglang nag-brownout. Sinabayan pa ng malalakas na pagbuhos ng ulan at pagguhit ng kidlat. Sa harap ng kandila, bumalik na lang ako sa mesa para ipagpatuloy ang aking pagkain. At hanggang sa pagtulog, maalingasang pa ang panahon. Umuulan pero pinagpapawisan ako. Mukhang malas ata ang gabi kong yun.
